A simple strategy for parents, to reduce overwhelm during 'Lock-Down': What Can I Do?

In this article, I explore the feeling of overwhelm that some parents of dyslexic children across the UK are experiencing as they experience life under ‘Lock-Down’ whilst supporting their children. I will show you a simple strategy that you can use to overcome that feeling by just asking yourself one little question.

One of the essential ways of dealing with stress and anxiety is to recognise when you are feeling overwhelmed.

It’s fair to say that with the current restrictions in place to combat the spread of Covid-19, we have all experienced so much change that we are simply not used to. The unfamiliarity of the situation easily lends itself to feelings of anxiety and stress.

As a parent, if the restrictions have not affected our job status then it will have changed the way in which we need to work with the focus being from home if we are not essential workers and of course in working from home, as parents, we will also need to support the learning of our children who are also ‘working from home’. Everyone is juggling so much physically, cognitively and emotionally. At times it could all seem ‘too much’ aka we experience overwhelm.

“When it all becomes too much, that is the feeling of ‘Overwhelm’ setting in. You have what you need to overcome it, you just need the right strategy to access that personal resource.”
— John Hicks, Parenting Coach & Dyslexia Blogger.

So I thought that I would record the video below, exploring the topic of experiencing overwhelm as a parent and a strategy that works for me in overcoming that feeling.

Watch the video below and let me know in the comments section what your experience is. Underneath the video I will put some links that I mentioned in the video that will help you.
